Cipro drug is used to treat urinary tract infections (UTI) in adults and children from 1- 17 years, including:
- acute cystitis in women, caused by Escherichia coli or Staphylococcus saprophyticus;
- chronic bacterial prostatitis, caused by Escherichia coli or Proteus mirabilis;
- bacterial kidney disease (pyelonephritis);
- bacterial infection of urethra mucous membrane (urethritis.
Cipro dosage for urinary tract infection
- In UTI treatment of mild severity, it is recommended to take one tablet of Cipro 250mg every 12 hours during 3 days.
- In UTI treatment of moderate severity, it is recommended to take one tablet of Cipro 250mg every 12 hours, not less than 7 days.
- In the treatment of severe UTI, it is recommended to take one tablet of Cipro 500mg every 12 hours during 14 days.
- In the treatment of chronic bacterial prostatitis, it is recommended to take one tablet of Cipro 500mg every 12 hours during 28 days.
- In the treatment of uncomplicated gonorrheal urethritis, it is recommended a single use of Cipro 250mg.
Antibiotic Cipro is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, including acute sinusitis, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, lungs abscess, pleural empyema.
Cipro dosage in the treatment of respiratory tract infections
- In acute sinusitis treatment, one tablet of Cipro 500mg is taken every 12 hours during 10 days.
- In the treatment of uncomplicated lower respiratory tract infections, one tablet of Cipro 500mg is prescribed 2 times a day during 14 days. Interval between Cipro doses should not exceed 12 hours.
Antibiotic Cipro is intended to treat infections of skin and soft tissues, as well as infections of bones and joints – rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, osteoarthritis, gout, rheumatism, psoriatic arthritis.
Cipro dosage in the treatment of infections of skin and soft tissues, bones and joints
- In the treatment of infections of skin and soft tissues of moderate severity, it is recommended to take one tablet of Cipro 500mg every 12 hours. Maximum duration of Cipro use in infectious diseases of soft tissues and skin is 14 days.
- In the treatment of severe infections of skin and soft tissues, daily dosage of Cipro is 1500 mg (one tablet of Cipro 750 mg / 2 times a day).
- In the treatment of severe skin infections and infections of soft tissues, duration of Cipro use, as a rule does not exceed 14 days.
- In the treatment of infections of bones and joints, Cipro dosage is the same as in the treatment of infections of skin and soft tissues. In the treatment of infections of bones and joints, duration of Cipro use should be not less than 4 weeks
Antibiotic Cipro is prescribed to treat gastrointestinal infections, including intra-abdominal infections, typhoid, and infectious diarrhea.
Cipro dosage in the treatment of gastrointestinal infections
- In the treatment of typhoid fever, infectious diarrhea or intra-abdominal infections, it is recommended to take one tablet of Cipro 500mg every 12 hours.
- In typhoid fever treatment, duration of Cipro use is 10 days.
- In the treatment of infectious diarrhea, antibiotic Cipro should be used not less than 5 days.
- In the treatment of intra-abdominal infections, duration of Cipro use is from 7-14 days.
Antibiotic Cipro is also prescribed to treat pulmonary anthrax in adults and children.
Cipro dosage in anthrax treatment
- In the treatment of pulmonary anthrax in adults, it is necessary to take one tablet of Cipro 500mg 2 times a day during 60 days.
- In the treatment of pulmonary anthrax in children, daily dose of Cipro depends on child’s body weight. Maximum pediatric dose of Cipro is 15 mg per 1 kg of child’s body weight. Herewith, for children from 1-17 years total daily dose of Cipro should not exceed 500mg.
